Heater
I have a 1987 260e here in the UK which happens to be LHD. It also has the optional A/C on it.
My problem is that I cannot get any heat out of the heater & its freezing in the UK at the moment.
The fan is working but only cold air comes out.
If I press the A/C button, the air gets even cooler, if I press the ECO button, the light on it is very dim & then goes out.
I don't mind if the A/C doesn't work as long as I can warm the interior of the car up !
Pls help
try this: pull the 3-prong plug from the so called Duo Valve under the hood. You'll find it in front of the battery, it has 2 silvery little domes. It's a valve that switches the coolant into the right and left radiator circuit of the heater. If you pull the electric plug, the valve opens completely and the heater stays on and you dont freeze but you may sweat. The problem here is that the closing mechanism gets stuck and may remain "close" position. In order to find out whethter this valve is switching just cranck the heating to full and let the car idle. Then plug and unplug 3-prong connector and listen to the switching noise of the valve. Sometime just this prodedure may solve the problem. If this does not work its either the Duo valve or the central control unit in the dash which is faulty.
Good luck and happy holidays.
The haynes manual I own is vary basic when it comes to the heating system & doesn't have any information regarding the A/C system.
