e420 rebuild questions

I got a shot at a 94 E420 black on Black w/ 1 month old wireharness and full new brakes. 137k with "timing chain work needed" If I get it I will do an engine out full rebuild on it and wondered if anyone out there has done full rebuild on this engine (this will be engine rebuild #8 for me but first Benz). What was your cost in parts and are there any pitfalls I should know about. The guy is asking 1000 obo. Let me know what you know.

Why would you need to do a "full" rebuilt at this point?

Or you can get an entire engine and swap it out?...

I ended up passing on the car but the reason I would do a full rebuild is to know that i have a fresh engine. Since I have a 320 that runs fine I would be able to take the time I need and do it right. Plus there are acouple of things I would have done to the heads and intake to improve the HP a bit. I am an engine guy and because I enjoy doing it so much I would rebuild the engine. I guess I should've phrased the statement as "I want to rebuild" not "have to"
