rear driver wheel grinding

I hear a constant grinding from the rear driver wheel and it does not appear to be the brakes. The car at times I can put in drive and let it idel in drive and wont move as if something is holding it back. I have heard noise without touching the brake pedal as if something is slowing it down. I have jacked it up and turned wheel by hand and hear noise perhaps inside the hub .Any ideas...95 e320 212K miles

Could it be the parking brake assembly has broken in the drum?

Dunno why noone has mentioned wheel bearing. Could also be something differential, and CV joint related.
