M 103 Mods What would you do.
OK, I have a nice rust free 300TE with a 103 engine and a few extra dollars.
If you were in my situation what mods would you do? It still is my parts hauler so nothing exotic like turbos or blowers.
Here's what I came up with:
CHASSIS:
H and R Springs.
500E Sway bars.
8.5 x 16 500E Wheels (I have a set laying around).
ENGINE:
Port and Polish Head/Extrude-hone.
Extrude hone exhaust manifold.
Mild cam.
BODY:
AMG Gen 1 front spoiler, side skirts and rear apron.
All modifications must be more or less period. IE 1989-1994 or so.
Let's hear some ideas.
Thanks
Ron

Enzo, my Benzo
I'd do lighting before those particular engine mods. The M103 costs a LOT to make noticeable power.
Also, listen to Rik and 8.5 may be trouble...stick with 18x8 et35 all around as a size that WILL fit...

89 300TE, and 68 280sel
I was at the local parts yard today getting a sunroof cable, and I noticed that they had an early w210 E55 AMG sitting out with the other Mercedes... when I opened the hood, naughty thoughts with my TE and that motor and tranny came into mind.

500E Signal Rot
Of course most people who claim they run these excessive sizes with no rubbing problem lower their cars so much that their camber is almost double digits in the negative. Which is fine if thats your thing, but please be clear on all the negatives, some of us prefer to have a normal drop and take the necessary steps to ensure our camber is within spec to maintain tire longevity.

lots of cars
Without rolling the fender lips and/or moving the fenders outward using the AMG spacers, or running rubber bands as tires, you will rub.

Have you actually had a set of wheels in 18x8.5 +39 front and +44 rear?
You should look at the numbers before making claims they will rub. A 18x8.5 +39 on a 225/40/18 tire will clear the fenders and is almost the same as running a 18x8 +35 rim on the same tire size. It actually will give you less camber because of the higher offset and width since its 14mm closer to the suspension compared to 18x8.
I had 245/40/18 on the rear when i had the BSA 18x8 wheels. They did rub a little but only when the suspension was loaded because that tire is too tall. 245/35/18 fits fine and i've even tried 255/35/18 but you will need to pull the rear fenders about 2-3mm out.
