What does the SPORT switch actually do??
I have a 300CE 93" its an auto. next to the gear stick theres the sport switch i was just wondering what it actually did??
as in does it make the revs higher gear changes later or is it really just to look good??

The S stands for "standard", not "sport". The E stands for "economy" and it shifts up earlier than S and always starts in 2nd gear. If you floor it in S mode, you will start in 1st gear, but otherwise it starts in 2nd and holds gears for longer than E mode.

Its not correct. Car always starts at 2dnd gear... 1st is switched only by kickdown.

500E Signal Rot
Not correct, some W124's started in 2nd gear, later models in 1st. My 1992 190e started in 1st, and my friends 1991 300e starts in 2nd and his 1992 300ce starts in 1st. Given that data, 1992 appears to be the year it switched (doesn't include the 500e though, those always started in 2nd)
