Please help with my W124 230E!!!

Hi folks,

Happy New Year! (",)

I've just accquired a second hand 1992 W124 230E mileage 230,000 in a country where vehicles are the most expensive, Singapore that is!Thus i would really appreciate if any kind soul would be able to help me on the following problems i faced? I really am not technically inclined! Please assist me as i really do want to be reaped off by unscrapulous mechanics. Felt like an idiot after buying the car as i seem to have endless minor problems on the vehicle.

1) The buzzing sound sometimes still persists at the rear of the vehicle after the mechanics change the electronic fuel pump. What could be the problem still? They claim that the fuel distributor is faulty. If supposedly the fuel distributor is faulty why does the sound comes from the rear instead of the front?

2) At times the warning lights for both the low on coolant and the faulty light bulbs are activated, after driving for sometime it then disappears ? What could be the cause as there the car has just been serviced and the all lights outside the vehicle are working.

Thanks for the advice!

God bless!

The fuel pump is making the buzzing sound. I dout it has anything to do with the distributor. I had the same problem, and found out they replaced the fuelpump with an after market model from Pierburg rather than Bosch. I had them replace it and the problem disappeared.

The failed bulb monitor shows also if one of the license plate lights went. These have the tendency to have corossion problems and as soon the socket dries it may go away. Check those and all the other bulbs in the rear lights. Just take them all out and put them back in it might cure the problem already.

Low coolant could be caused by a dirty switch, just trake it out and replace or clean it. Dont forget to replace the lost coolant.
