E420 MAF S210 vs W124

Hi Guys

have the S210 E420, which is the same M119 engine as in the W124 E420. Question to you E420 owners: have some issues finding a decent MAF... takes 3 months till a store can deliver me a Bosch unit at about $600 (mind you, in Germany)
but in that unit is only the sensor that needs replacing, any luck getting just that sensor insert somehow?
Also, i can't seem to get to that screw to undo the band around the unit (if i were to replace completely). tight space and things are in the way. Any of you out there who has managed this, and how?

appreciate yr input

sometimes i regret not getting the E320... soooo much easier to find parts (and at decent prices)

cheers

You need a special tool to access the nut that champs the MAF sensor to the bracket which then connects to the throttle/engine.

I believe it's a 8-10MM nut but you will need a very small wrench or socket wrench, it took me forever to take mine off and put it back on.

Also, while you're at it - once you remove the MAF sensor - Assuming it's never been replaced before you'll need to buy the bracket as well because the one current on there becomes hard and easily breakable. It'll make your life easier when you reinstall the sensor.

Also, I've heard you can have the MAF sent it and have the sensor replaced. See if the local parts store or dealership has a refurb. sensor available.

Mercedes has a special nut driver with a flexible shaft, used to gain access to these hard to reach clamps. I have one that I use on my 500e and my CLK.

I have had good luck getting MAF inserts off of ebay, just make sure its the proper MAF number as your original and that it is genuine Bosch and not a chinese copy.

On my CLK, to get the MAF sensor out, you need a 5 sided security torx, which is very uncommon (6 sided is common).

thanks guys, very helpful.
will need to get such a flexible philips & torx tool.
if i get a new complete unit, what i hear you say is, to change the sensor unit from it, as the complete thing takes forever (which i can imagine).
i let you know if it worked... gotta get my shipment from arizona to europe somehow without customs doubling the price....
cheers

ps: chrisdpham, you know i love your ride

currently seriously contemplating getting an E320 coupe...
seen 2 at decent price, one without leather (which i would have to upgrade), the other with 30k miles more yet leather and different hood (sick!)
any thoughts?

1) no leather

2) hood+leather

Actually, it would be a flexible nut driver, not a philips, 8mm I believe.
