300 TE driveshaft question

I have the driveshaft out, both parts, and have renewed intermediate bearing and support. Will install new front and rear flex discs.
Question is how does one torque the driveshaft coupling nut to factory spec? It's very hard to get to and the nut is 46 mm.
When I removed the driveshaft the two parts just came apart. The coupling nut was not torqued at all as far as I can tell. I'm thinking it may be ok to just hand tighten as much as I can.

I don't know. Sometime this winter I will replace the differential on my E300 with a used one I found. I would replace that center support bushing as well. I would guestimate the torque needed by putting my t wrench on a lug nut at the torque needed for the 46mm nut, see how many fingers it took on the wrench to get to that torque, and do the same thing on the wrench on the 46mm nut on the driveshaft.
What tool do you use to loosen and remove the 46mm nut?

Yes, a pipe wrench is very suitable for that. Just tighten it so, that there is no freeplay in in the splined section without it being stiff to pull back and forth. A tiny bit of stiffness should be ok though. And a little bit of grease doesn´t hurt either. .. .. ![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
( place the front part in a vice and try rotating the rear part left-right with your hand to feel the freeplay )
-But don´t forget to assemble it the correct way. There are marks on both parts, that should align. Two dashes on the front part and one on the rear part. The dash on the rear part is supposed to align right between the two ones on the front part. Otherwise you might get vibration.
Also, when replacing the flex discs, make sure the new ones turn the same way as the old ones do. It makes a difference which way they turn, because of the direction of the rotation force. They are designed that way..
