Question Connector block location in dash ?

I suspect an aftermarket cellular phone installation in my 1990 300TE may be causing me some grief with a hard short when I try to use the rear window wiper (continuous) or the rear washer. (Intermittent works fine so my thinking is the fault is up front in the dash) . Each time I try them, I blow the fuse, and once prior to it blowing, there was a wisp of smoke from the dash. I'm wondering if the aftermarket installation 'jumped' some terminals inadvertently.

My question is where would the most likely location be for an aftermarket mobile phone to source power / ground. The cellular was mounted on the console, with the power cable snaking forward under the console into the dash, below the radio. The previous owner indicated when selling that they didn't want the phone, as it would have required them taking the dash apart.

Any hints without resorting to taking the instrument cluster off? Many thanks, Chris

What I did was just took the 12V + from the radio, as well as the ground as well as the ingnition on. That should just be all you need for the cell phose, besides the speaker and the mic connection. You'll find all of thise connections bihind the radio, either throught he radio opening, or more comfortable from the passenger side of the "tunnel".
