Pumping gas- What an idiot!
ok i know im a jackass already, no question about that. But the other day i was pumping some gas and i went inside for a slurpie, i came back out and was so exited about the slurpie that i drove away with the pump still in the car. Now the pump was fine and i agreed to let the manager of the station punch me in the face (thats fair right). But now my car smells like gas when i get it above 2500 rpm. This seems to be when the windows are open. the tank on the outside is fine but i was wondeering if anybody knows why it smells like gas, i have filled up like 3 times after this and it still smells like gas. The part that the gas cap attaches to seems to be a little bent, not by much maybe a centimeter. i was thinking that maybe because the cap doesnt fit right that there is no vacuum pressure? im not sure but my milage has gone down a bit as well. please help!

**** happens, right!
My guess is that the filler assembly is either bent or just "misplaced". There is also a vent and a little hose running inside the trunk, to divert the gas fumes and may be gas (when overfilling) out side the car.
Take the inside lining of the trunk out (passenger side) and check. Maybe just the hose was falling off and then you will have the fumes in the trunk/car. The reason why it seems to be related to speed is that the inside flow of the air in the car is depending on the fan switch position, the temperature and other parameters. The "used" air in the car is leaving the car through some vents on the side behind the rear bumpers. And they are just above the filler cap.
So check what I proposed and if all is okay take a high pressure cleaner and spray the filler compartment (cap closed!!!!!!), behind the bumpers (passenger side) and the wheel housing.
It should work just fine. If parts are bent than you need to see whether there is a change to bend them back to how it was before the mishap.

wow dude i hope that never happens to me.....
On your problem, the gas camp does not have to fit completly in fact id it is missing altogether you should still have no fumes. try out the line that runs through the trunk...

I had a bad gas fume problem once. My mechanic found out the gas cap was not sealing so replaced it. No more fume problems. You can probably replace the gasket first to save a few bucks.
