Rear defroster does not engage
Hey guys. I need some help.
For some reason my rear defroster will not stay on. I can push the button, and the yellow LED turns on, but only stays on if I hold it. In no other fashion will it stay on unless I hold the switch in the on position.
It worked a while ago...when I mean a while ago I mean last winter...but stopped working since then.
Anyone have any advice on this?
Thanks guys,

The defroster is controlled by the combination relay, it also controls the turn signals and the intermediate wiper setting. They are known to go bad, the solder between the pins and the circuit board crack. A few people including myself have been able to open up the relay and resolder it.
Here is one recent thread about the relay. It includes a link to where you can purchase a new relay if you don't think you can resolder your old one.

Edited for spelling, I shouldn't post as I'm falling asleep.

i used to carry a bottle of water out with me when i was driving my BMW 2002. id start the car, let the idle settle, then go back and pour the water on the rear windshield. get in the car, go.
not a solution to your problem, but it defrosted the rear windshield.
dont use HOT water. warm will do just fine.
