Please help my sluggish 92' 230E W124

Hi folks,

Aquired my first Mercedes vehicle with 230,000 km on the clock. Spend a fortune on repair bills already for i was not technically inclined when i bought the vehicle! Anyway would appreciate if any kind soul could advise me on the following:

1)Was travelling at only 150 km/h with full trottle and the vehicle can't seem to be able to move beyond that speed.

2)When over taking at 120 km/h , there was no kickdown. Had a hard time overtaking and almost collided with the vehicle coming from the opposite direction! Is there anything wrong with my gear box?

3)When climbing a hill , the speed would decrease even with full trottle.

In all instances, ultimately the rpm would increase after a period of time depressing fully on the acclerator. Please advise what could be done to have better accleration and better top speed!

Thank you very much and do have a nice week ahead!

Since you already spent some money...

I hope you already had a tune-up. However, it sounds like the coil is going bad since it only happens under load, right?

Well...

Ignition coil.
Tune up= replace spark plugs, spark plug wires (if original), distributor cap and rotor. Change air filter. As a basic tune-up.
From there, the sky is the limit.
Do you have any other symptoms?

Thanks for your great advice JH and will get a mechanic to look into the following areas you mentioned. Other than those symptoms i've mentioned, the car runs like a gem!
Once again thank you! Cheers!
