Upgading an E220 with a larger engine?

I can get my hands on a 1995 E220 Convertable,
cheap.

Is it possible to upgrade this with a 3.0lt or 3.2lt
straight six,

I guess you would have to upgrade the front srings and of course the drive chain, exhust ect.

But is it possible?

Has anyone done this?
Thanks

Youd be better off getting an M119 from a 400E or E420.

Yeah but your actually better off getting a C36 motor over the V8

Isn't the 220 a I4? It might take some work to swap that to a I6, you could get one of the C230 I4's with the supercharger and run that with standalone...

Easier to get a 1994-1995 124 E320 donor car.
All parts including electronics are compatible and the engine bay is set up for the 3.2L.
Closest to plug and play as you can get.

the 3.6 and 2.3K were in a different chassis and parts not fully compatible with the older chassis without much thought and work.

In the long run it would be better to spend more and get a E320 Cab which would increase in value over a butchered E220.

Right the 2.3K is a w203 motor but is probably based off of the I4 in the 220's because that motor was in the 124 and 202 cars. The 3.6 liter is the same block as a 2.8 m104, it was in 124's 210's and 202's. So if the 3.2 will fit the 3.6 will most definitely fit. I would also be willing to bet the m272 or whatever the 2.3k probably has similar mounting points to the 2.2 I4. You can actually run a 3.6 with a 3.2 ECU, only the 97 had ME unit, so it should be fine, just don't get one out of 97 C36...Thats the nice thing about MB is basically everything is the same, w124, 140, 210, 202 all had versions with 104 motors.

You CANNOT just put the M119 into the M103 bay. You need the whole front clip from a v8 car.

True dat, V8 swap is too much work, and I don't really know how it would work out in a convertible.... You can make just as much power with a 3.6
