Unhappy Brake pad wear indicator lamp

Hi,

I recently got a 94 E320 wagon with 92K miles on it. It was given the 90K major maintenance before I got it. A week ago the break pad wear indicator lamp was flickering but has not lit up fully when I put the breaks on. The flickering went away and today has come back. But after I stopped to visit a friend it went away again. The front pads has been changed in Aug 2002. The wire harness has been changed a year ago, so I don't think that might be the problem. Is this something I should worry about?

Carlos.

Disconnect your battery then re-connect it. That should reset the computer and sensors.

The wear indicator is located within the brake pad, and lights up when the indicator and the disk get contact (like a switch) what it could be is that there is pad dust and moisture between the indicator and the disk which make the light flicker. Either just take the wheels of and clean the bake assembly, od just try to hose down the brake assembly with a high pressure lance. This may help already. If the indicator has not been swapped during the maintainence it could also be the indicator and its cable. It quite simple to replace, however the inner brake pad(s) have to come off.

Thanks for the info. I'll try to disconnect the battery and reconnect it. Is there anything before I disconnect the battery? I will also air dust the pads and see if that helps.

Carlos.
