Question FGS for the 500E - any good?

Someone posted this item on e-bay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... otohosting

What do you guys think?

Can you identify it?

OP says it is complete. Is it an easy install?

I am considering it, but would I be better off with a different unit? Are any available?

Interested to hear your experiences. Thanks.

Hmm, you own a 500e and have never visited my site? Shame on you

www.2phast.com/500e go to the Performance Upgrades section and scroll down till you come to the FGS install.

Ha ha thanks Rik.

I actually remember reading about this on your site, a year ago. Although I remember you used the child safety switch for the FGS, I forgot that you had simply bypassed the shifter switch for your mod. I like that Idea. The kit I'm looking at comes with an MB switch to mount in the fader location so I wasn't really thinking about your FGS solution.

However, I too want to keep the fader location available for an ASR Defeat.

If I read your procedure properly, I don't really need the module or relay or whatever, that is in the advertised kit, right?

Thanks for jogging my memory.

Are you coming out on the 4th???

Hmm, I think you should re-visit and re-read that section, I have the very kit your asking about installed, although I have no need for a on/off switch for the FGS, although you can install one if you so chose.

Hmmmm, yes. I did scan over it again, quickly. perhaps I missed something. I like your child safety switch idea.
That is what i'd like to do.

You do believe this is the same unit you used?
Is this price reasonable?
Has it given you any trouble?

I just sent you a email. Also look at the 500e forum, I posted some more information in the thread you started over there. Also a link to another on Ebay directly from the manufacture. The one your looking at has a few extra items included, which might be worth it to you. I have not have any problems with the item, if I did, trust me, I would never endorse something that I consider to be a POS, all my posts are honest and direct (something some people don't appreciate)

Yes, its the same item, mine looks a little different, as it was a prototype. You don't need a on/off switch, unless there is some specific reason you want to be able to switch the item off. If thats the case, you could indeed use the child safety switch as a on/off switch for the electronic FGS. I don't use a on/off switch for mine and have mine configured to hold 1st gear for as long as possible before shifting to 2nd.
