94+ hoods question.

Alot of the older 124's are upgrading their hoods on this forum so i got a quesiton. Is it really that simple? Just buy a hood and install? Or (like with most car parts) do i hafta buy other things in order for it to work? I have a 88 300E. and i would like the newer style hood.

thanks in advanced
Paul

You'll need a new hood, chrome grill surround, grill insert, and new headlights.

Euro's will do, but they have to be Euro's for a '94 - '95 hood. If you have Euro's for the '86-'93 hood, then they won't fit.

Sugi,

That is not correct... the only function the headlights serve in the facelift are cosmetic. You could probably even leave the two piece headlighs in place with the new hood...it just wouldn't look good

Euro or U.S., '86-'93 lights and '94-'95 lights are shaped very differently.

The '94-'95 hood will close shut with the old lights, but there will be an ugly gap. The grill portion of the hood is much smaller.

The converse is not true. If you have an old style hood, it will not even close shut with '94-'95 lights.

Ok, I may be incorrect on the info about hoods fitting euro or NA spec lights but I do know this... Unless you ordered your lights from a mercedes benz dealer and told them you wanted euro lights from a 1994-1995 E320/420 you have most likely euros from a 1986-1993 300E. As well if you ordered them from an aftermarket dealer and said you needed euros for your 1988 300E, you'd get the same euros. (OEM or not) Long story short, if you asked for 94-95 euros, you may have them, otherwise they are the <94 lights and according to sugi, will not fit the newer hood.

Hope that helps

I agree with Zorro AMG.

Do you have these euro's installed on your car now? If so, then they are definitely 86-93 lights. The 94-95 euro's wouldn't fit because with your current hood, the lights would prevent it from closing.

You'd have a several inches gap.

I guess 2 to 3 inches on each side. I've seen a picture posted before on this site or another one that shows what I'm talking about.

I'll try and find it.

If you have the early Euro "flat-face" headlamps, you can order the 94-95 Euro lenses from Paul at Puma (http://www.puma-access.com). They will snap in place.
