Exclamation 400E or 300E - Need Help Fast!!

Hey All!

You all know me, probably, I'm chupper with the 89 300,000 mile 300E. Today my dad was driving my car and rammed it into someone else. The car isn't totaled, but damages are high. He might give me $5,000 to go out and get this one fixed or just get a new car.

I will most likely be getting a new car. The question is, should/can i get a 400E, use up close to the total $5g's on the car or should i spend like $2-3g's and get a 300e and spend the extra cash on mods or just spend it on somin else.

So, the big question:

What should Chupper do?
A.Buy a 400E for around $4,500-$5,000 (Can you get 'em that cheap?)
B.Buy a 300E for aroud $2,000-$3,000 and spend the rest of the money on mods
C.Fix up your 89 300,000 mile beater 300E (rusting, cracked engine, dent under rear light)

What do you think? I could use your speedy advice. This deal might be done in a few days... Feel free to give me all of the advice you want. I really appreciate it! Thanks so much.

PS-I'll be posting this on another forum as well, sorry if you gotta read it twice !

Don't think you can get a 400E for less than 5k. I looked around at some car prices, and see them at like 7-10k for one in the early 90's

If it was me, and I *could* get a 400E for 5k or under, I would go for that

edit: but then again, I dislike v6's =p

I would try to get a '93 or newer 300E because that will have the newer engine. Like Tank said, to get a 400E for under 5k would be almost impossible. You might consider a BMW 535i, they are cheap, fast, and fun to drive; but they won't have the quality.

Hey, thanks for the offer...

Currently I'm the highest bidder on a car on E-Bay. If I lose the bid, I'll let you know.

Thanks again!

do you remember me by any chance ? i was the one with the water pump and drive belt problem ... anyways, i got them both fixed, and no more than 2 days later i got a flat, and during the tow, the driver ****ed up my oil pan ... so it went back to the shop again =] i got it back today with a new tire, balanced, and a new oil pan ($400) all paid for by your local towing agency =] ps, i needed a new oil pan too. i think it was worth the 2 day sacrifice.

well, again, thanks for the offer but I am looking for something driveable. The only thing I don't care about is tires, head unit, and minor scrapes.
