How to remove shifter knob on 95 E320?

Bought a wood replacement shift knob from performance products (with 20% off sale) -- but the knob in the car appears permanently attahced to the shift stick (automatic 95 E320 cabriolet). Is there a trick to getting it off, or would replacing the knob mean getting a knew shift stick?

thanks!

Go to www.2phast.com Click on the 190E. He has a brief segment under the interior section on how to replace the shift knob. I know it is a different car but it should help a bit.

Did you ever figure out how to replace the shift knob? Any suggestions on where to find one at a good price? I've seen them for as much as $100 (too much). I've also considered replacing my steering wheel with a wood and leather one. Any thoughts on where to find one at a reasonable price? Thanks.

You need an adapter shaft for the W124 chassis. Performance products sells them. SK-33210 is the adapter's part # in their catalog.

You have to remove the compartment with the sliding cover by unscrewing two philips head screws just ahead of the compartment.

After that it's quite easy to see how the wood shifter surround comes off.

Then the hard part is getting the plastic parts off the shifter assembly.

check out www.eris-car.de they have some nice wood/leather steering wheels..

I went to their website and it seems like the only way to find that part is to search that part #. I can't find it through any other method. I wonder why that is?

Wood shifter knob

FYI, I found a cheaper burl wood shifter knob at www.parkplacestores.com. Look under MB accessories. Cost is $59 plus $7.50 shipping.
