1994 E320 transmission slip 2-3

Hello everybody. This is my first time on the forums here and I am having a problem searching for my exact answer. I have a 94 E320 near the 90k miles mark and having few problems with the transmission. First off, when the car is cold, it takes like 10-15 secs for the trans to upshift from 2 to 3. When its warm, the car will shift gears without any delay but theres a slippage from 2-3. All the other gears work properly. I read somewhere about the b2 piston problem? Could it be related to this? Any input from you guys i would appreciate. Thanks!

Slow shifting when cold is normal. These cars have what is called an upshift delay that allows the cat to wrm up faster and supposedly reduce pollution. For your shift issue do a search on shift flare.

Thanks for your input. Upshift delay? If so, I wouldn't think the RPMs would climb up to 3 - 3.5 (depending how much throttle even higher in RPMs) and hang there till it shifted to 3rd gear. I don't know much, but thats too much delay if you ask me. I will search for flare though and see what I come up with. thanks again.

The upshift delay locks out 3rd gear until the catalytic converter reaches operating temperature. Mine will up to 2500 3000 rpm before shifting if I push it when it is cold, but I usually take it easy for the first mile or so.

GDC..

When I first got the car, everything was working fine, the tranny, no flare, no delay etc. It started acting up as miles were put on. From what I believe, the 2-3 flare can be fixed with the K1 spring kit. Many people fixed it with that kit. There are also a lot of people with the upshift delay problem going from 1-2 or 2-3. My problem is just 2-3. Someone claimed there was a fix by the shifter (some switch fix, not sure where that is) so the car knows its in the "d" position. I appreciate your input though, not saying you are wrong on anything, but I never had that upshift delay problem when the car was first bought.

I had a similar situation in the same car as yours, but one step further, it stopped going into 3rd. My local trans shop changed the oil and filter as well as cleaned the accumulators and seemed to work better. This was a relatively inexpensive fix but eventually had to be rebuilt.
