WIDEBODY CONVERSION UPDATE

All the looking, measuring and thinking is complete.
Initial patterns are made.

The hold up has been finding the correct wheels, because without the wheels mounted the arches can't be attached and adjusted.

Found someone in the UK who can build a set of period 3 piece Aero's that were used on the original AMG 320CE widebody.

Stock they are 17x8,5 ET18 front and 17x10 ET17 rear.
I'm having the rears modified.
The mod will be to install a front face in the rear barrel which will decrease the offset by 30MM...
When done the rear will have a -13 offset.
Without spacers this negative offset will push the face out about three inches from the existing wheel lip.
Considering even using a 25- 30mm H&R DRA hubcentric spacer which will extend out another 1" +
Wheelwells should be filled !!!

If all goes well I should have the wheels in about two weeks.
Tires will probably be 255/40R17 front and 295/35R17 rear...

I'm so excited!!! another widebody build thread!

I really like your focus on having a "period" look. It always looks terrible when people take an older car and try to make it modern.

Looks like you're taking the "spare no expense" route, which makes it all the more fun for the rest of us to watch. Please take lots of progress pics!!

Going to spend all of my money before the current governing administration takes it away from me and forces us all to drive little egg shaped cars with long extension cords....

Seriously ( as if I wasn't already serious !!! ), body parts may be repros as the original AMG Gen-1 kits are about impossible to source...

Will end up doing a monochromatic paint job ( You won Zorro !!! ) but undecided if I will paint the bumper impact strips black like the original 320CE widebody

Hey, if I get a smart car out of all this, I'll be happy.

Ed, we must have a meet this summer. Any other east coasters in?

pifcat, If you want to make your set of AMGs staggered just get new 35 hole lips. I know some companies who can make them from .5 wide to 10" wide.

I'm building some sets of BBS RS in 15" and 16" but im using 1" bbs lips up front and 2.5" schmidt lips on the rears.

Do you mean lips = rim halves? Not sure what you mean by 1" and 2.5" lips...

Im talking about the outer lip...you know 3pc wheels are lips, center, barrel....You can change the lips on OZ wheels to change the width.

a little off topic, sorry rbycc.....btw, if you decide that you need bigger lips on those AMGs there's a company in canada that makes them to your spec..

$800 for wheels in rough shape...

$179/each x2 for the lips...

$1.75 x120 for gold bolts

$200 for polished nuts and emblems

Powder coat and polishing should be another $450

so yeah...that's for one set...

I just got these...
