500E Signal Rot
The offset is acceptable (+34) but the 8" diamater wheel makes them about 1/2" too wide. Mercedes documentation for installing wider than stock wheels on a W124 include installing fender/bumper spacers and a bit of hammer work on the inner fender well to prevent full lock rubbing (depends upon what wheel is to be installed) and some fender rolling.
See example AMG installation guide for 16x7.5" et 37 wheels

I have been trying to figure out what rims will fit my 95E420 without modifications. Tire Rack states that a 16 x 7.5 rim with an ET range of 35 to 38 will fit with no modifications. They also claim a max tire size of 215/55/16. The AMG installation guide above states that spacers are needed for the fenders and they must be rolled. There is a difference in the statements between these two. My guess is that AMG is being conservative in their fitment statement.
Anyone else have an opinion?

I have 245/40/17 on my 300e, 225/45/17 in front. The wheels are 8.5 in back and 7.5 in front. I have an 500e and a 300e, so I will see if the 500e wheels fit sometime this weekend and let you know.

mhmm, sell the e420, get a 500e problem solved.
Seriously though, where you looking to install stock rims on the 420? By the way the stock tire size for my stock e500 rims are/were 245/50-16...But I think you could go smaller - Just something to take into consideration when calculating the size, offset, and any potential rubbing issues.

1995 e420
I just picked up a 1995 e420 with original 4500 miles on it and the car is brand new and in stock condition. I just wanted to beef up the wheels a little bit and thought that maybe the e500 wheels will fit. Do you know any other mb or amg wheels that will fit without any mods. I want to keep this thing original for resale value down the road.
Thanks for your help

1970 300SEL 6.3 , and a couple younger MB's.
I have the stock 1993 OEM 500E rims 16x8 ET34 with 215/55-16 tires on my wife's 1993 400E.
This with the original 400E suspension.
No rubbing or any other problems at all.
Best,
fredd

Battlecat - I would have loved to buy a 500e, but budget would not allow. There is one sitting in the shop where my car gets service with weeds growing around it. Shop owner figures it needs $15k to get going and owner does not want to spend. Has 280k on the odometer and looks tired. What a shame!!!
mbmmotor - That is great to get the car with 4500 on it. I was happy to get one with 128k on it. I cross referenced the wheel fitment guide with the size and offset numbers from tirerack and came up with the following list of mercedes rims that 'should fit'. Have not tried any yet, but there is a decent list to work with. Looks like the 500e rims fit based on posts above as long as you use a 215/55 tire.
I also went throught the Tirerack site again and they did reference some 8" wide rims with offsets between 32 and 35, so the 500e should fit.

you are probably right, they will fit, but To be on the safe side, I will just order one from tire rack and see how it fits. I will keep you posted on the progress.

I put one of my 500e wheels on my 300e yesterday and it looked great. I actually think maybe better than the 17" c-350 sport wheels I have had on there. Sadly, the the offset is all wrong and with the stock 225 tires, would rub like crazy.

Thanks for the input. I will just keep the original 15" wheels and just change the tires instead. The original size is 195/65 R15 and I'm thinking to go a little bigger. What do you think will work better 205/65 R15 or 215/60 R15.
Thanks

Use the following calculator to help determine what size you want. Tirerack recommends staying within 3% of OEM diameter to prevent issues with speedo and rubbing. They told me a 215 would be the widest you can put on the car. A 205 would give you a little more wiggle room.

looks like the 215/60-15 will be the closest to the original size diameter wise. I will just have to check the width to make sure that will not rub against the shock.
