w124 brake pads/chassis number question
I have a 1995 E320 that I'm trying to change the brake pads on. When I find pads at several online sites, they ask for chassis number and provide a range to choose from like so:
To which chassis range does the vehicle belong?
B000000-B864307
B864308-B999999
Well, my VIN ends in C216941
That puts a C where their B is.
According to the vehicle data card, the chassis number is WDB 124032
1C 216941 5. I see the "216941" is on both.
I took the existing brake pads off to see what was on them and found they are Textar 21153 160 (46L), which I found in AutoPartsPlace.com's B864308-B999999 section. I don't know if I can trust that the picture they show really match the product. I also don't know if I can trust that the C or B are interchangeable and what follows can be trusted as the same type of chassis number. I read on http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Vehicle...Benz/VIN_Codes that the B and C in these numbers are the
Position 11, production plant: A-E Sindelfingen and that Positions 12-17 are in fact the chassis number.
Am I being overly cautious? It seems odd to me that at least two parts companies have the chassis numbers listed only with B and that according to the pictures I saw, my car has the wrong pads installed. I'm fairly sure (by the work history I have for the car) the previous owner only took the car to the Mercedes Dealer for work.
Any input is greatly appreciated. I don't want to order the wrong thing and be stuck.
Thanks!
