Engine Upgrade

Hi all, i am a new comer..

I got a 91 300 CE24 with M104 engine. Due to mileage, seems not powerful as what i expected, shall i go to fix it, rebuild, or upgrade with other M104 engine say 3.2 or even AMG3.6 one? any good comment and suggestion?

Thx a lot

You have the early M104-24V with the KE-Jet III injection.
To change out to a later M104-24V would mean a different ( HFM ) injection system and engine management control.
This would mean changing wiring harness along with control.

I would keep what I have, rebuild it with higher compression and enlarge the displacement to 3.2.
You may want to research if performance cams are able to be located as NOS somewhere.

This would be equal to the 1989 AMG 320CE.

Upgrade the exhaust system with hi-flow cats and silencers.

You'll end up with about 245+ HP

If you can find an AMG 3.6 from an E36 ( rare in USA ) or more common C36 it might be worth your time to do the swap.

It all depends on your ability and financial resources.

If you aren't in love with the coupe, then probably less expensive to find a 400E / E420 which will outperform the 6 cylinder variants.

Good Luck

Ed A.
