mono Cab

Recent upgrades to the white Cab:

debadged back of car, removed gold package, replaced star on front with chrome, painted lowers, grill surround and door handle covers, replaced stock grill, removed headlight wipers, clear corners, and rolling currently on et31 16x7.5 Aero Is.

I love the outcome, was aiming to blur lines between newer models and this Cab. She'll hit 55K miles this week. She will get lowered eventually.

My only suggestion? Paint the jack points under the sideskirts a flat black...they stand out terribly in white. Easy peasy fix...

I can live with everything except the complete debadging of the rear. But glad you're happy with it!

Cheers...

I love it but I too am not a fan of taking of the star on the trunk.

Good feedback. I had not noticed the jack points, but I did wonder about the star on back. It was part of the gold package, and the gold was coming off the car period. My first impression is that I'll bring back a chrome star.

agreed- the back looks like it's missing something. I like the debadge of the "e320" though.

agreed...a chrome star would complete the rear. The only other thing would be... Get some tire shine on those tires!!

How did that turn out removing the badging off the trunk, can you still see in the paint were it was after all these years being in the sun?

Of course you can't please everyone on these forums. If you are happy with your car, then it is a success.

That said, personally I can't imagine painting over all of the chrome and stainless accents on these cars. I am also not a debadging fan, unless maybe I was trying to hide the fact that I had a truly inferior vehicle. Clearly, you don’t have an inferior vehicle. I also prefer the 94-95 corner lights over the all clear. And finally, although your all white looks great, the white with gray lower panels is one of the two-tone paint schemes that I think looks very good on these cars. I would have kept the gray cladding. I also wonder if the gray may have provided some practicality, by keeping the lower cladding looking a bit cleaner. Zorro is definitely correct about fixing the look of the overspray under the car.

You can’t please all of the people all of the time, but hopefully you have done something that will please yourself.

This car had no less than 10 colors going on, different shades of black grey silver chrome n gold and the window trim. The lines of this car, imo, do not require any of this artificial enhancement.

A little sandpaper and a $3.99 can of Krylon will hide the white jack points and a full detail is coming.

I am not sold on these rims, I like'm but will go more subtle on this car. I have a range of Aero 1 and 2 choices, and am curious what other wheels might be worth a looksee.

agreed on the rims - an all-white cab needs more subtle rims.

looks great

I gotta say the white lower on top of the white upper looks great

If you decide to replace the star on the rear lid, do you just carefully (very carefully) drill out the bondo used to fill the hole?

Yes, the chrome star is ordered, the hole will be drilled from the backside. Gold star is in trash, other details are in cue. And I picked up the pictured set of 1/6 Carlssons.

If I don't like them on the white Cab, I'll LOVE them on the Sportline,
still considering white painted one piece 16" aero I monoblocks,
and if not,
this Cab gets a set of 17" aero IIs for the rest of 09.

Trying these on tomorrow: (18x8 et35 225x40x18)

I drove 400 miles on Monday for these wheels. I'd pay handsomely if anyone ever sees a spare.

Wow, nice wheels! If those fit, you will really be styling with 18" Carlsons. You are quite a wheel hound.

Admittedly, due to how much I love the 2/6s on Enzo, when I decided these were real, I drove off with cash and without delay to reduce chances of losing them.

Fresh pics hopefully by the weekend.

White cars have long been my personal preference.

While I aimed for all white, I did not want to go after smaller details that would need repaint more often, like the mirror surround

I added back the chrome star on trunk lid, and left the former black trim piece at bottom of trunk lid white.

door handle chrome, painted white, but not the door handles

the chrome on top of bumper and all side panels, sanded/painted white.

the grill surround is body color, what little chrome on car is now mostly the stars front and back and the 6 strip grill insert.

I am thinking of refinishing the Carlssons body white (thoughts appreciated)

And the et31 aero Is have found a new home

Beautiful work Rich.

I'd advise against painting the wheels, but that is just my personal preference. The Aero Is actually fit the SL which is surprising. Didn't think the SL was aggressive enough for them

Thanks Brett,
I am hoping someone might be kind enough to show these wheels whited out in photoshop. With an excellent finish, I think white could work for my tastes. Right now, I have a few more small details, and am probably done for the season on this Cab.

POS has AERO I (painted body color) on a real AMG R107 SL, so I felt like the look fits MB/AMG opinion of the mid 80s. The fitment is nice. As well the 14 inch wheels got upgraded to 16", and Becky is happy, not complaining about my Carlssons.

i definitely like how it looks with the white carlssons... Maybe you should buy another set and have one set white for when the top is down and paint the other set black for when the top is up
