Hard rain = wiring harness short?

Barely made it home tonight. My '95 E320 wagon was acting up in the rain again, chugging and misfiring like crazy.
I've had this problem before and thought it could be the spark plug wires/coilpack but I've changed all those only to find out it was the drain holes on the battery side of the raintray being clogged.A MOUSE! had made a nest of cotton jacket lining all inside the raintray and it was pooling water everywhere near the ECU harness. We got the compressor air nozzle and blew the area out and it had been fine for many months but the same symptoms have come back!
It started happening again when I took it to the auto car wash, (I usually wash it by hand), and once more tonight in a torrential rainstorm <<< that is the common denomiator.

I had same problem were your pre cats glowing when you looked under hood. Your sucking up water. You need all your intake stuff on and the plastic peice on bottom of car.when mine was off it was horrible in the rain.

I just had an oil change too, I'll check if they put the splashguard back on and I'll check the air filter.

Has your wiring harness ever been replaced? The original 94-95 engine wiring harnesses have 100% failure rate. The wiring insullation turns into dust after about 10-12 years.

you say you changed wires and plugs... Did you do distributor cap and rotor as well? Also make sure dist. cap cover is in good condition and doesnt have any cracks in it.

Wiring harness was changed by the previous owner, ( the jacketing is 'glossy').
We took the battery/tray out and blew the area with the air pressure nozzle while vaccuming and it seems to have worked I have driven in 2 or 3 rainstorms since that and it's held up fine.
My wipers go on by themselves sometimes and the blinkers won't always work but I suspect that I need a new stalk, (sensor).
