Electric fans - functions?

Hey guys, I have a 95 E300D and the two fans up front do not seem to work, but I'm curious as to their functions. Is one controlled by the temp sensor and the other by the A/C?

Or do both come on when needed simultaneously for either engine cooling or the A/C?

Thanks for the help!

2 fans work together at low speed or high speed. Low speed is controlled by refrigerant pressure and high speed is controlled by engine temperature. See comments in the link below from Arthur Dalton, a real expert.

Wow, thanks for the great read, that's why I love the forums! First thing I'll do is ensure the refrigerant level is adequate then I'll check that resistor wire - he didn't do a great job identifying where it is besides behind the drivers headlight but I'll find it.

Thanks again, the W124 continues to live!!!!

There is also a strip fuse of some kind up against the firewall. I really don't know much about it except I have seen posts about being sure to check that the strip fuse isn't the problem. I think the strip fuse is around the same area as the main fuse box in a seperate housing. I wish I could be more help, but I am not a DIYer.

There is a picture of strip fuse in this thread.
