interior cabin temp sensor motor

Since the 94 E420 has an airbag, how do you get to the cabin temp sensor motor in that area?

Pull the airbag, its easier then you think.

Sit in the passenger seat, reach down under the dash and feel around for a hole about the size of a quater (its near the front edge of the knee bolster). Using a socket wrench with a 6" extension and a 10mm socket, insert it up into the hole and unbolt a very long bolt. Once that is out, the airbag slides out, then you can unplug it and remove the knee bolster (which you need to do to get to this sensor).

I would add disconnect the battery first. And being among the compulsive, remove the passenger carpet piece, remove the metal cover, and disconnect the red airbag plug.

The airbag connector plug is on the back of the airbag, there are no airbag connections in the passenger side footwell. Airbag deployment sensor is center dash, behind the radio.

None of the airbag components are powered when the vehicle is off, disconnecting the battery is overkill and the factory service manual makes no mention of disconnecting the battery to service the airbag. Of course, by all means, feel free to do so for peace of mind.

FSM 91-680

The 2phast web site is amazing, and I have referred to it a few times.

I have also replaced an 124 evaporator, and so respectfully point out section 91-680 “Removing and installing passenger airbag unit” of the FSM, from which came the suggestions to disconnect the battery and unplug the red airbag plug:

Ignition- switch off.
Negative terminal of battery- disconnect and cover.
Foot mat in passenger’s footwell- remove.
Foot rest in passenger’s footwell- unscrew and remove.
Red test coupling for airbag plug connection (X29/9)- disconnect.
Central retaining bolt for passenger airbag unit- unscrew and remove.
Plug connectors on passenger airbag unit- disconnect and remove unit.

Yes, it’s overkill, but yes, it’s in the FSM.

Must be year specific, my 500e has no airbag connections in that area, unless its a junction cable only. If thats indeed the case, it makes no sense to disconnect at this point, when you can disconnect from the rear of the airbag.

My WIS shows the cable going from the airbags directly to the control unit (behind the radio) and I see no junction points with any type of "quick disconnect" labels X29/9.

Are you sure this isn't for late model cars, maybe 96 and later?

LOL- I know nothing about 1996 and younger MBs.

The correct info I supplied from the MB FSM is not just model specific, it’s specific for all 94-95 124 cars that have the passenger side airbag installed, i.e., his car.
