Do you notice more Benz's in the junk yards?

Likely due to the $ for Clunkers program.

Last week there were 9 W124's including 2 wagons. There was even a '93 S600 V12. None had major body damage. Another yard had a '94 E320 and a '97 S320...

Yes I've noticed for sure. Its a shame the block + head are useless...There was a beautiful E320 that I was so sad to see there...

maybe also because it's getting harder for people to maintain an older benz these days... if you can only afford a car worth $3k, it's much cheaper to run an older accord than an e-class..

Pifcat2, which junk yard are you talking about?
I want to check the place. Please let me know. I live in Easy bay. I can drive there and find some parts that I need.

Yeah I also agree that maintain w124 is $$$$$$$$ even though you know how to work on cars. Compare to Japanese brand this car has too many known problems such as wiring harness, HG, TB accuator, and other stuff. I know all depends on how the car was maintained, but you know most of owners didn't really take care or spend big *** $$$ to maintain their cars. Well at least first owners....
This is my first benz and this is one of the most unreliable cars that I have ever owned.

It's the PNP on Monterey Hwy but there are only about three or four W124s now and pretty picked over. The E320 was on Commercial but when I got there it was gone. Send me your email and what you are looking for and I'll send a message when a new car or two arrives. You have to check frequently and get what you need immediately. I've come back later with tools and the parts or whole car would be gone. They sell the runners so my guess is the parts cars had starting issues or blown head gaskets.

We aren't enthusiasts for the reliability. I'm constantly working on mine or improving it but when I'm driving it I feel it's all worth it. I have a car that's unique from most and know most of it's problems and strengths. When I had a Honda it just did it's job getting me from A to B. I never thought of how it was built, it's design, it's history, how innovative it was, etc.

lots of cars
The thing is that you'll see tons more at the junk yard because the market for the w124 is basically fading away. Most w124s can be bought for 2-3k. That's good news for all w124 enthusiast because we can find a lot of parts for them now really cheap.

I think it's a myth that mercedes cost a lot of maintain. Just the brakes on a benz cost less to maintain than a honda. I myself will be sending my car to the junk yard because i don't have the space to part it out. The only thing i'm keeping is the springs.

Well, any E320 or 300e wouldn't have qualified for the clunker program. Not sure about the E420/400e economy.I think you just notice them because you have an eye for benzes

That's true about the eye but over the past 2 years, I've never seen more than 3-4 W124 and recently there were 9. I've only begun to see wagons which is good for me. I realize much of it's caused by economics since who would pay shop prices for a 2-3k value car.

What irks me is buyers tearing good dashes to get the speakers or tearing apart the engine to get a cam bolt or whatever they were after and I rarely find console wood. This is unfortunately common in self serve dismantlers...
