viscous fan coupling 200e

hi guys,

have a prob with my beloved merc, i think my viscous fan coupling is defective. does anyone know how i can check it. the car runs fine no overheating at all until i am stuck in traffic. i have to be stuck for a fairly prolonged time but she goes right up into the red and gets all steamy.

im thinking of locking the fan blades to it somehow but not sure how this will
affect fuel consumption.

any ideas greatly appreciated.

chris.

hi - to check whether the fan coupling is working.....you need to stand in front of the engine....look behind the radiator...you will see a fan....

try to spin the fan.....if the fan can be easily spun...this means you need to replace the fan coupling....because in normal working condition...there should be some resistance for the fan coupling...
