Random spark plug wire question

We were doing a tune up on my moms e420 and while taking off the sockets to get to the spark plugs one of the rubber pieces that's inside each socket stayed on the plug. As you all know you cannot remove the plug with the rubber piece on. When we finally got it out it was broken. Now I have been searching to find a new rubber piece but all I can find it buying a whole new set of wires. Has this happened to anyone else?

Also since this occured the car isn't running like it should, runs a little rough at times, as if not on all cylinders. Could that rubber bit help guide the spark?

lots of cars
You're running the car without one cylinder firing! Stop driving it and buy a new set of wires or at least go to a junkyard and find a temporary wire.

Yeah, thats exactly what I am doing. No junk yards locally have one so I'm just going to have to buy a whole new set. = /
