wierd problem with 88 300e

hello. Thanks to everyone who has helped me out so far i do appreciate it. When my car is at idle, idle is smooth no problems there. but when i turn my steering wheel at tight angles like when backing out of a parking spot my rpm drops to 500 and wants to stall. I watch it happen as i turn my wheel the RPM drops, then when i want to accelerate the car chokes up, cuts off the gas and i dont go anywhere until i press the gas pedal all the way down and hold it there for a few seconds....wierd. What could be causing my rpms to drop when i turn the wheel while parked? Anyone have experience or knowledge to share? thanks again.

Have you checked the fuse on the OVP relay? I am not sure if it is used on your year, but I had a similar problem with my daughters 93 and the relay was the culprit. It is located behind the battery 2"x2"x4" with a fuse located at the top of the relay (may have 2 fuses). It protects the vehicles ECU and ABS computers from an overvoltage condition. Inside are several sets of relay contacts and a zener diode that will protect the computers by causing the fuse to blow. If the ECU contacts are dirty it could cause strange behavior. When I was looking for answers on mine I came across a check that you can perform to check the operation of the relays action, but it will not check for potential problems for individual relay contacts. Further testing is posible, but not for the typical home mechanic. You could remove the relay and see if the symptoms change. If they do, then the relay is not likey the problem. When you load up the power steering by a maximum steer it can cause the engine to vibrate more than normal, hence the potential for relay contacts to be affected. Just a long shot to check on, good luck!
