Wiper Woas

All of you is SoCal know this already but we are experiancing a steady flood of rain that makes having only one big wiper that doesn't work quite right a scary prospect.

Problem: The wiper arm make it about 3/4 of the way across the windshield before it "hops" about 2 inches. It is hard to describe but i think it actually skips a little scrion of glass before reaching its full arc on the passenger side. Then on the way back from right to left it stays flt on the glass.

I have searched everywhere for similar complaints but haven't found anything. I have the motor R&R procedure and some detailed picture instructions from a peach parts DIY.

Question: Has anyone heard of this? What do I need to look for when its all apart? Would this be a gear issue or the motor and arms?

Any and all comments welcome.

Can you describe the issue a little more clearly?

Is it hopping along the glass? Check that the rubber blade isn't worn or hard.

Sorry ... the wiper is new, the whole assembly (wiper and arm) are smooth starting from left to right (behind the wheel) until it reaches about the last quarter of the full sweep. Approx 1:30 on a clock. At this spot it kinda clunks a bit and seems to actually skip about 2 inches of sweep. Its always at the same spot and only when going from left to right. The other direction its always smooth.

I am concerned that i am damaging somting by letting it run so i try to only let it go when i cant see anything through the glass, but that has its own risks.

thanks

Have you taken the assembly apart to look at the gear for the wiper arm? It is my understanding that they are a fairly common wear item and if it jumps like that it may be due to missing/ground down teeth on the gears.

Not yet ... it will be underway shortly. I couldn't tell if it was common or not as I couldn't find much info on it here. I will post how it goes.

Issue vanished

So after taking it all apart and cleaning everything I put it all back together and the bump is gone. I didn't find any real cause although I did also change the wiper blade at the same time. I hope it doesn't come back but its smooth now.

thanks
