The in-tank filter is in the fuel tank.

How do you remove the fuel feed line from the In-Tank Strainer...

It looks like the hose goes into some type of a metal sleeve?

I believe it is threaded into the piece. I cannot say for sure, as I have never removed one. Logic tells me it may be threaded into the strainer.

It doesn't say anything about a special tool for it in the FSM...

I have not seen a specific tool for the fuel line removal in the Samstag catalogue. A crimping tool is featured in their catalogue that crimps the fuel line closed when changing the filter, but I use a mini-visegrip for that operation.

Ok Im going to need to remove the fuel tank to get that line out (fuel feed line from strainer). Its hard to get at and I cut the hose off so I could get it out but no luck at all.

What could I use as an improvised tool in order to get the two rivets out of the guide funnel where you put the gas in...

Can this tool be bought at any auto parts stores...

Tank removal should not be that difficult. I saw a guy pull one at the salvage yard, and I believe it took him about 45 min.

The book says you can remove the fuel strainer with tank in place. You ought to try that first.

Are you referring to the nut on the fuel feed line or the base of the strainer?

From the way it appears, the large nut at the base may be integrated into the strainer. It may be one threaded piece.

Nope the fuel feed line hose screws into the strainer. Can't get it loose! I even cut the line up to where the metal sleeve screws into the strainer. It's in there tight...

A Mercedes dealership will not sell tools to anyone!

Would it be ok to use a grinder to grind it off half way. Or would that create a fire with it being so close to the gas tank...

The strainer, I believe, is threaded into the tank. How else would it be secured? The hose would thread into the base of the strainer, I can understand that.

Don't use any grinder. You want a total absence of spark. I'll be at the salvage yard tomorrow, and take a look at one.

Back from the salvage yard today. Pull the weather boot away from the tank. It is a rubber cover about 3" in diameter. Since you have cut the old fuel line off, now you should be able to get a deep socket around the fuel line nut. Remove the old line. Now you should be able to get what looks like a 22 or 24 mm socket around the base of the strainer. Turn counter clockwise, that should do it.

Nope the base of the strainer is 46mm exact thats what the Mercedes tool is.
The one at baumtools and samstag is part # M0035A $$$$

The feed line came out with the use of a 19mm combination wrench.

Any way I could find a 46mm socket locally?

Try using a "channel lock" pliers on the widest setting. If that does not work, you might get a large socket from a Snap-On tool dealer.

The gas gauge sending unit is secured by the large nut (46mm). The strainer nut looks like its a 22mm or so. Double check to be sure.

Your right. But your referring to the factory hose nut which was 19mm. The new aftermarket one has a much larger nut 22mm. If you change the hose you have to change the strainer as well. This I did not know.

Im gonna get a 46mm impact socket 1/2 drive off the internet and see what it does...

Ok I got everything worked out. Bought the 46mm socket from Baum tools in Florida. I replaced every hose on the fuel system.

Im going to put it all together this weekend!

Keeping my fingers crossed that it all works...

I have a spare fuel pump that I can use if need be...

When everything is together, you need to prime the system. You do that by turning the key to the "on" position. Do that several times to pressurize the system. Then turn the key to start & hold it for 5-10 seconds until it fires.
