If i Drop in a KN air filtercharger will it be louder and faster?

I dropped a K&N Filter Charger into my 93 300D 2.5 Turbo. I noticed a MUCH louder whistle coming from the turbo. More air going in...slight increase in power, i dont know how it will react in the gas engine. Its worth a shot...K&N Makes great filters, plus, you dont replace them, you just clean them...
