Question Replacing grille insert

I ordered one of those S600-like, Avant-garde grille inserts for my 1995 E320. I read that the connection points may not be as numerous or as sturdy as the OEM grille. Does any one have any suggestions about how the insert is removed and how the new insert will attach? Do I have to remove the entire grille to then remove the insert, or can I just exchange the insert? I am no kind of mechanic, so any assistance you can provide would be appreciated. Thanks.

I ordered it from http://www.tiendalatina.us/

I beleive its easier when you remove the whole grill...I do know that you'll have to shave and cut some to get it to fit and buy new clips for it.

Some dudes over at Mercedesshop.com did a group buy and posted how they did the install...search over there in the Hot Rods forum. It wasn't a piece of cake from what they said but the end result appears to be worth it.

Just curious, why didn't you buy the OEM S600 piece from a dealer?...they are under $100. I've heard mixed reports on the quality of the aftermarket ones.

no modification required

I think that you are thinking about the earlier W124s. My 1995 E320 has the smaller grill and the aftermarket S600-look, avant-garde grille was made to fit on my car. No modification is required, but I have read that it does not have as many points of attachment as OEM. This part is not available from Mercedes. Bekkers has it too, and they say that although it is not OEM, it is of high quality.

Does anyone know if the S600 grille, from a similar looking year, fits on the 1995 E320? I didn't think it would fit, so that is why I went for the aftermarket part. I thought I was doing the right thing.

Ahhh, I see what you are saying now. My bad.

The OEM S600 grill does need to be hacked a bit to fit...

New tongue?

Hey, I forgot to ask about that little tongue that releases the hood. The stock part is integrated in the grille. I wonder if I need a new part from the newer cars that have grilles similar to my avant-garde grille, if I can just paint the current part black, or if it really doesn’t matter because you can’t see the piece until you release the hood. Any tips would be appreciated.
