300 te 12 year old gas
hello, i am new to this site and new to mercedes. after years of watching my father own 6 different ones i was finaly able to make a move and buy one out of a private car collection, great right? not so much! the car sat for 12 years with 3/4 tank of gas in it. it has a miss in it at higher rpms and back fires when trying to get the rpms up. the car idles (ok) slight miss. after spending the last 2 months chasing problems im so close but stumped. here is what i have done so far had the gas tank redone thri gas tank renu, 2 new fuel filters, replaced both fuel pumps with new, blew out all lines with compressed air, cleaned all injectors and blew out all injector lines. ive looked extensivly for a vacum leak and have not found one as of yet. last night i pulled the cap and rotor off and discovered it was the original one ( car has 136,000 miles) needless to say it was nasty! so last night i replaced cap and rotor wires and plugs. to no avail! while my father sat in it with it running last night he wondered if the injector pump needed to be bled so with the car running i opened the bottom port bolt next to the return line and the car ran like a top if you close it it runs like crap. also if i take my hand and restrict airflow thru the throttle body it runs great! any and all advice/help would be greatly appreciated! thanks in advance

If it's like my vehicle, it should be in front of the battery, perhaps with a cover on it. Take a peek at the pdf link. It's a book that should have a sketch of what the unit looks like.

lots of cars
Run it with cheap gas and ISO-HEET. The gas probably turned into varnish and will clog your fuel injectors, fuel pump, and fuel filter. It's going to take some time to get it started but it will start. I've resurrected mustangs that have been sitting for longer than 12 years and they've ran like champs after I cleaned the jets on the carburators.

Take another look at the pdf link. Look at pages 24-25 (the pages for your model) for the fuel injection system. You'll find that the black lead goes to Socket 1 (or battery ground) and the red lead goes to battery positive. The link also lists the codes specific for your model.
