94 320 runs hot when going slowly

94 320 runs hot when stuck in traffic or going slowly, then when back up to speed, temp returns to normal. Any suggestions?

I own a 93 300ce, same 3.2 liter engine, same situation....fan should kcik on at some point before you redline - that would be a whoops. If you are really concerned, take it to a mechanic and make sure your thermostat isn't stuck and your fan kicks on.

It's your auxilary fan. It probably isn't working right or not working at all. I had the same problem on my 88 300E as long as your moving pretty fast the engine supplies the means to cool it down, but in stop and go traffic it can get really hot. You should get it fixed before summer or it might be a real problem. It could be that you just have a broken fuse which you can replace yourself.

My car does the same as well, although mine is the V-8 which is known to run hot. I would recommend modifying your auxilary fan sensor to enable them to come on at a lower temp. Jim Forgione has a website, http://pages.prodigy.net/jforgione/MB_X11.html and somewhere in the site he has made a plug in device that alters when the fans do come on. He sells this device but I think only for the V-8 cars, maybe he would be able to make a 6 cylinder version.

this is most probably the fluid clutch of the main radiator fan. It needs replacement at the age of the car. Relatively expensive part simple to DIY.

You can try a little slf check. If the engine is warm, but off, try to turn the main fan by hand. If you kick it to turn and it does more than 90 degrees or so the clutch is gone, and the fan never reaches full speed. Fiddleing with the sensors makes no sense if this is the cause, which I'm pretty sure it is.
