500E year model?
500E year model?
Hi, I'm a newbie here. According to my car's registration, I have a 95 E500. How can I know for sure? The car has been upgraded all around. VIN WDB1240361B780969. In the VIN decoder it says delivery date of 1992, is this the same as year model?
Go to:

Ask for info on that site. Good database there.
I know that one member from Hawaii had a 500 with 91 build date, but the car was registered as. 1993 model.
Also, try asking on:

Lots of knowledgeable people there.
Congrats on a 500!

Yes and no, given that your delivery date is May 19th 1992, that would indicate a mid year 1992 model. If your delivery date was later in the year (after September I believe) that would indicate that it was a early production 1993 model
Rik:
Do you remember what the story was with Sean's silver 500E, in Hawaii?
It was a euro-specced car, built in 91, I think, but his US registration showed it as a later year, for some reason.
At some point, the car was in Japan.
Speaking of Japan, I saw an AMG import W124 at my bodyshop - I'll send pics.it may be for sale.

Saw those pictures you sent, have any data on the engine and/or interior?

LHD, black leather, I think.
Light brown-coloured wood shift knob. Black cluster face - I don't think there was AMG logo on Speedo, but not sure.
Never looked at the climate control.
Looked bone stock except for shift knob.
Looked complete and in good shape. Interior could use a good detailing to see what it's about
Engine - no idea. I expect I'll be seeing these guys tomorrow and I'll ask about it.

Further - yes, though there was not a 1995 model run, some late '94's were registered as '95's and referred to as such.

DMVs around the world make all kinds of mistakes, always have, but that doesn't change the factory designated model year for the car.
Last E500's rolled off the line in June of 94, pretty close to the July switchover for the new year, so it wouldn't suprise me if some of these late cars ended up titled as a 1995 model (since they were mixed in with the other 1995 W124 models)

Thanks, Vexed.
I guess it's whatever is easiest to match up with their incomplete database
BTW How was that car? We saw great pics of it.
If you don't mind telling us, why did you not buy it?

Again, all kinds of strange things can happen once the car leaves the factory but there were no 1995 E500s from the factory. The last of the cars were all 1994 MSOs with "R" model year VINs. It's been a few decades since model year cutovers were that loose. At one time the model year was determined, per German regulations, based on the date that production was completed, so if the car wasn't sold to a dealer the windshield wipers were withheld, then installed later and assigned the model year based on that later date.

Sean had put a lot of time and money into it. However it did have some issues, including some rust inside the trunk by the hinge. It was too rough cosmetically for me, things that do not show up in pictures. When the car was federalized they had to use new doors because of the side impact beams, they did not quite match the paint. I am not sure what happened to it.
Trying to send you a PM but it was rejected because you have to full an account.
Crap, sorry about that. I guess I didn't "commit" my selected messages to the deleted folder, my fault. Fixed for sure now
