Wrong brake rotor hole pattern?
I recently needed to replace the rear rotors on my 1987 300E. I took the wheel off and inspected them before I bought new but I didn't pay close enough attention to the holes on the rotor. I bought rotors that had the hole for the retaining screw but didn't have the extra hole for the locator pin. As I looked around for new rotors I noticed that many stores carried either the ones of the hole or the ones without. A few carried both from different manufacturers.
I haven't been able to find ANYTHING on why some rotors have this extra pin hole and others don't. I've got the right ones now but I want to know why. Based on what I enter into the websites there doesn't seem to be a reason, both are available for the same year.
Anyone have any idea?
