Comand 2.0 retrofit...

So I have gone crazy... I am going to attempt to retrofit Comand 2.0 into my wagon...

And not just the headunit, but the whole shebang!

I am planning on installing a euro comand 2.0 unit, steering wheel controls, multifunction display, and the fiber bus for the CD changer and telephone....

I want an OEMish system in my car, so this should just about do it...

Any thoughts or opinions?

Hmmmm, theres also a bose amp that runs off the fiber....

YOUR NUTS!

Just kidding.
But I would take it one step further. The installs Zed posted, similar to what I did in my Cabrio and the Pioneer unit are nice, but....... Still don't look like they fully belong.

There was a post I think on 190Rev, where I guy did the c36 transplant into his 190, plus took the HVAC system and installed it. So his HVAC controls are the size of a Din unit. Do the same and then play with the area where your HVAC controls are.

You could make it look a lot more oem like.

Just my 2 cents.

Keep the thread updated

IMO, it could look oem if there wasn't a contrast in materials. If the center console and HVAC wood was painted or wrapped in leather, it would look great. Or if there was a wood overlay between the buttons on the command unit.

Hmmmm good suggestions.

I do want to move my AC controls downward. I would like to retrofit the newer style controls, but the newer controls have dual zone, we only have single zone.... Plus rewiring the system would be a PITA. Although, I am going to be doing a fairly extensive comand retrofit, so it wouldnt be too much more wiring.

I do want to move the AC controls to the bottom of the console, and install the comand into the middle. I have been getting parts of my interior done in Alcantara, and will prolly have the trim piece done in Alcantara to match the rest of the interior.

My friend was joking around about installing the DAS 3 system out of a newer MB into my car.... Would be cool!
