300d tranny problems

I have an 87 300d with a slipping transmission. Will the transmission out of an 83 300d work?

No, you need one from either a om603, om602, m103, m104. All the later inline motors. The om617 has a different bellhousing. A standard 300e transmission will work with a m103. These are very plentiful. You will need to swap your valve body though and probably should swap the vacuum modulator.
The shift points will be all wrong otherwise.
