New steering wheel & shift knob install 95 e320 cab?
Anyone have instructions for steering wheel and shift knob replacement on a 95 e320 cab? I have a new steering wheel coming (old airbag unit should fit) and new shift knob coming later this week. What's involved in swapping the old airbag into the new wheel, and what's involved in replacing the shift knob?
I replace the wheel in my Porsche and just disconnected the battery and unscrewed the bag from behind the wheel -- is it essentially the same on the Benz?
The shift knob on our e320 doesnt seem to disconnect from the metal stalk -- does the whole thing need to be removed somehow?
thanks for any advice!

To remove the knob. You must remove the gear selector rod as well. Simply remove the wood around it. Remove the plastic around it remove the gear indicator cover. (all this is simply pulled off). Then unscrew the rod nut. And your done.

Pulling the steering wheel is easy....2 torx (star)screws hold the bag on from the back and a large allen head screw holds the wheel (you'll need a breaker bar on the allen head)When you re-torque that allen head, line up paint marks (you'll see)
You may need to scavenge parts off your old wheel so horn works and turn signals shut-off...depends on what wheel yous got.

Can i change my wheel too?
Hey guys, is it possible to change the stock steering wheel of a W124 300D with the wheel from a C280? I think it looks pretty nice compared to the stock wheel (its also 11 years newer)

Almost all Mercedes steering wheels are interchangeable up to 1999. You cannot put a 2000+ wheel on an older car, AFAIK. I have a W210 wheel and a W202 wheel on my 1987's and I love them. They are the same part number. The wheels are cheap, the airbags are not. The W124 from 86-91 used the same airbag, and 92-95 used the new style. You need the 92-up type for a later wheel. Full details on my swap, including photos, are here:

Expect to pay $75-$150 for a good used wheel (soft leather), and $150-$300 for a used 1992-99 airbag. This ain't cheap stuff, folks...
