Clear Corners

I'm think of getting clear corners for the blinkers on my 95' E320. The car is silver and I'm not sure if it will look good or not. Has anyone seen these on a silver E320 before? Also, what would be the best place to order them from, I've seen them on several different websites with BIG ranges in price. Is one maker better than the other?

Thanks guys, just getting into this mod thing, tinting windows will be next, and then wheels/tires.

IMHO stock looks better than any accessories. You'll end up looking like a rice burner in Hong Kong.

Thumbs up Haha!

I was thinking the same thing dave. I didn't want my sweet sweet benz looking like a "rice burner in Hong Kong". So I'll just save my money and my pride. But I think I'm still going to put on rims and tinted windows. That should add a nice touch.

I respectfully disagree. I think clear corners are a tasteful modification, as long as amber bulbs are used to keep them flashing the right color. Keep in mind that Euro-spec corner lamps are usually clear from the factory (in fact, some European owners "upgrade" to amber corners). To each his own. BTW, clear corners for my W124 are in the mail as I write this.

Patz:

Wouldn't clear corners would make your '95 E look like a '94 E? I'm not sure if the lingo of clear corners refers to the entire tail-light assembly or just the turn signal, but didn't all '94 E class models come with clear turn signals? I've seen a bunch of '94s with that sort of set up, with amber bulbs, and I've always assumed that was factory...

Usually the term "clear corner" refers to the corner indicator lamp at the front of the car, next to the headlamp. Pre-'94 W124s have amber corner lamps, while '94-95s have clear lamps with amber strips.

BTW, to further my point, the E500 Limited came with clear corners from the factory. Clear corners are more European than they are a rice boy phenomenon.

Daez-nutz, if/when you get your clear corners could you post a pic? My problem with the clear corners is that they might not look good on a Silver car. And what were you saying about changing the bulbs if you get the clear corners?

One more thing hah! Where did you order them from? I have seen many different sites with them and there is a wide variety of prices. I'm figuring some are higher quality than others, but I'm not sure. Thanks!

Sure, I'll post pics when I have them installed. I ordered them from www.procarparts.com for ~$30. I'm not too concerned about build quality for something like indicator lamps. I'd be willing to bet that most places are selling the exact same product at varying prices. Especially for an older application like the W124. Anyway, this is the best price I could find, and they ranged all the way up to about $60-70/pair, which is way too much.

Clear corners look just as good on a silver car as any other color. Here's proof:

Nice!

Hah that is my car basically, looks nice. I was even considering putting those monoblocks on my car, the 18" ones, but I don't know about that now, lots of cool wheels out there. Thanks for the picture Daez. Are the corners pretty easily installable? And will I have to do anything with the bulbs like you were mentioning earlier, something about having to use amber bulbs....

I noticed one more thing too, the door handles on his car are different from mine (the black handles with that silver stripe through the middle). Anyone have a clue where he might have found those handles?

Sorry, I'm a little newbie when it comes to this stuff.

oem clear corners

patz,
i've had both clear corners [front].
the first pair came from inpro car parts, they were JUNK!! the [re-grind] plastic was very cheap and brittle. the rubber outer gasket started "cracking" within 3 months! they didn't even fit well, i was always having to "click" them back in place.

i ordered oem bosch clear corners from www.eurocarparts.com

they are fantastic! mercedes has excellent quality control standards. the fit, the finish, these are meant to last.

you really do get what you pay for. with shipping i paid about $68.00.

hella is also oem and are really nice also.

Patz - There is a lot more done to that silver 500E than it appears. The door handles are custom, as is the suspension, lights, hood, and a whole lot of RENNTech under the hood. That's RUN.EXE's car, he posts on www.mercedesshop.com occasionally. It's probably one of the nicest 500s I've ever seen.

ebennz - My mistake, I didn't realize there was such a discrepancy in quality. I agree that Bosch and Hella products are top notch. Hopefully mine won't be of such poor craftsmanship.

thanks

Ebennz, thanks for the warning, I would MUCH MUCH rather pay extra for a higher quality product. I'll order mine from the link you provided. Do the clear corners most places list for W124s fit all W124s? I always though the headlights on the 94-95 ones were a little longer.

As for that silver E500, that is the coolest car ever hah. I wish I had custom door handles, that would be awesome. I'll try and find him at that site you gave Daez thanks. Maybe we can get our cars to look that cool

hey patz

patz
when you order them, be VERY specific you want bosch or hella ONLY. also make sure they know it's for the front turn signal clear cover. all the w124's were the same, so they will fit.

I received my corners yesterday, and sadly, they were not OEM, but "Made in Taiwan." They didn't seem to be of particularly poor build. But rather than take any chances, I will be returning them, and I've already ordered another set from Bekkers. I assume that Bekkers carries Bosch or Hella, and I will confirm this soon.

worleydave - Yeah, that 500E is one hell of a Benz. With all his mods, he should be running 0-60 in the low-5s and 1/4 miles in the mid-13s. I think he's considering the 6.0L RENNTech conversion, which would put him on par or faster than 55s and E39 M5s.

Check out my friend's cars at http://www.tokuhara.net/cars/ ... Glen has a '87 smoke silver 16v with clear corners, and a '94 brilliant silver E500 with factory corners and a '95 smoke silver E320TE with factory corners ... this will show you the differnce between aftermarket (on the 16v) and factory two-tone corners.

How much did you pay for the clear corners? Are they OEM? Where did you get them from?

Those look like these. Are you sure they were Bosch? Im familiar with Gecar, those fit and look like the ones in your pic. What kind of box did they come in?

Anyone have pics of Depo clear corners or tailights? I want to see how they look, fit, and feel. I heard they are almost as good as originals.

I want to see pics of Hellas and Bosch clear corners too, thanks.

I have both the Bosch and a Taiwan brand white corners. Both look identical but I did have the Taiwan corner pop out once. Bending the spring clip fixed that and it hasn't popped out in years.
