Removing Oil Pan
Ok, I'm trying to remove my oil pan on my 88 300E to change the gasket. I have already undone all of the screws and bolts that attach the lower oil pan to the engine, but now I've run into some trouble. I can't get the stinkin' OIL PAN OUT! I've already removed the front sway bar so that isn't the problem, but something else is keeping me from getting pan out. Whether its the components in the oil pan or the frame of the car, I don't know. Is it possible to remove the oil pan with out lifting the ENGINE?!?!?!?!?!?!?

S*** job. You either have to lift the engine or you clear everthing in the way of taking off the oil pan downwards. Inside the pan there is the oil pump in the oil sump, so the removal is not possible sideways , but only downwards. I'd rather let the oil seep than swapping the gasket. Normally the dripping oil does not come from the oil pan gasket. It comes from the oil seal of the cranckshaft and is blown by the fan across the engine. The second source of oil is the front cover of the engine (where the timing chain is running in)
I checked my documentation this is how it works, but still something DIY profs in my opinion.
loosen front engine supports, unplug all the wiring, take of the fan cawl, lift the engine as far it goes, WATCH the hoses and cables, open the oil pan screwa beginning at the transmission, take off the chain wheel of the oil pump, remove the oil pan and the dip stick and its pipe, replace the gasket and wörk your way backwards.
Or just refill the missing oil :-)
