Thumbs up

300E, 1990 with 86,350 miles (about 138,160 Km)

And around 185,000 miles (296,000 Km) on my previous 300E 1986. I know the guy who got it from me and I see the car frequently. Going strong.

I love these cars.

Among many diesels, I also have a 300E. I have a manny tranny in it. My '86 300E has only 334K miles on it and it turns 3:1 on the highway because of the 5th gear.

*I have to laugh at these commercials advertising special lubricant formulas on TV for 'higher mileage vehicles'. The cars they are talking about have 75K miles on them. 75K miles in a Benz is like nothing at all!

Okay, so it seems no one has hit over 300k. I'm wondering what starts to fail at this point. My largest concern is the things that would require a rebuild like crank or rod bearings. My 86 needed valve seals, pulleys, tune parts, and a water pump at 275k miles but I'm not sure what work if any was done prior as I bought it 5k ago. I also have the clunky tranny which I hear is common for this mileage.

137K on my 500E...needed ALOT of work starting at 125K but he's fine now...hopefully for at least another 130K.

I know someone with 350K+ on his 500E.

Okay, so it seems no one has hit over 300k.
and my previous post...

Had an 89 300E that my sister now has, that is currently at 306,000 miles and still going strong.
I see that 89 300E everyday as I pass the first garage bay to get to my car in the third garage bay.

08 Lexus GS350 AWD. 08 Lexus RX350 AWD - wife's. 94 MBZ E320 - still have it.
Just turned 100 K on my '94 E320. Last month replaced the head gasket, because minor oil leaks were driving me nuts. It was quite a job, but I did it at home with my brother's help. So, the only expence was about $200 for new gaskets, bolts, and valve stem seals.

Nothing looks better, folks, than a Mercedes engine without any oil on the outside!

Arnie,

I agree. My 93 300CE just turned 100K two days ago and I had the head gasket replaced within the last month. Peace of mind and even better - no more oil dripping.

1993 300D 2.5L Turbodiesel 168,000 miles. It still has a long way to go to catch up to my 1984 300D Turbodiesel with 313.700 miles. My garage floor calls her "the Valdez".
