'87 300D Turbo, engine will not turn over
This happened to me, hard to diagnose but easy to fix. The problem was in the harness connector which is located inboard next to the fusebox. Pull the connector out and push it back in again, several times, if need be. I made sure there was no corrosion and added a litle lubricant. It has been fine since.
