I recently got a '89 300E as payment for working on someone's car. The car can be shifted into gear without hitting the brake and without having the keys in the car. Just curious if this is normal on this car. The car also runs rough at times then stalls at take-off. The car sat for a long time and might be carboned up but it runs like a champ on the highway. Been blowing it out for a few weeks now. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

This car did not have a shift interlock, what you describe is the normal operation. If you don't want it to accidently go anywhere, use the parking brake.

Cool. That's what I heard but it sounded a little weird to me. I appreciate the reply. Now I just have to fix the parking brake. Haha.
