86 300E dash vent removal/replacement

I have just bought a 1986 300E with 99,000 miles and it is in really good condition. There are a few cosmetic things I need to fix. The dash vents on both sides have cracked and broke so I went to my friendly neighborhood junkyard and found a 1987 with good vents.

My question is how do I remove the vents without damaging then?

Thanks,

Clancy

Vent removal

On the side vents there are clips top and bottom, inside the vent. Pencil torch will reveal. Centre vent needs removal of instrument cluster to remove screw in the side, plus an allen key to release flap lever in the center. Sides push back in place after positioning the clips on the vent, center a reverse of removing.

I found that the tool sold to remove Ford radios is VERY helpful. It's U-shaped and you can stick one end into each of the clips (left or right side of the vent). It will snap into place and you can then squeeze it to pull the clips inward. Work on one side and then then other; repeat as needed to free the vent and slide it out. That's all I had to do to get the side vents out. Center vent is more complicated...

The tool is about $7 at most auto parts stores.
