1995 E320 Special Edition
Finally Found a '95 E320

Hello,

I finally found my next Mercedes! I haven't one in a couple years (since '08) and I am very excited to have found this 1995 E320 Special Edition. It has 125,000 miles for $3,000, it has maintenance records since 75,000 miles. I really, really want this car.
However, I have some concerns:
I know about the wiring harness, and the head gasket.
I know how to check to see if the harness is bad and needs replaced. But what about the head gasket? Should I check the coolant reservoir for oil? I know it's a terribly novice question. Furthermore, what other things should I look out for and be aware of to avoid getting a bad car? I was relatively involved in my old '87 190E 2.3 but I have very few automotive skills and a full-time college schedule. Thanks in advance.

head gasket

Check the underside of the oil filler cap. If its milky white underneath, coolant has seeped into the crankcase indicating a bad head gasket and it will show up on the underside of the oil filler cap.

The front lower left side of the engine by the timing chain tensioner should be dry. If there is evidence of leaking oil, it may just be coming from the front timing cover seal. On a 103 engine, the head gasket will leak on the left rear side of the motor; a 104 motor, the lower front left.
