steering issue

1990 300E
steering issue

So i just replaced the head gasket on my 1990 300E. The car has been sitting for about 5 weeks or so. now the steering feels funny ... not heavy but the wheel does not want to return to straight after a turn. fluid level is good. any suggestions?

Check the serpentine belt / tensioner. Perhaps the pump pulley is slipping so the system doesn't have enough hydraulic pressure. Also, is the steering dampener in good shape? Try disconnecting it and the driving the car and see if the problem goes away (steering may be twitchy without it).
